Carlou D
Ibrahima Loucard, named Carlou D was born on 1979, December 13 in Dakar of Senegalese nationality. He took his first steps in school in 1985 and left it in 1995 for the benefit of music. He was a member of the rap group Positive Black Soul (PBS) before embarking on a solo career that propelled him to the stage as a musician, singer, author and composer. Passionate about history and geography Carlou D exports his music with a certain experience and maturity acquired over the time spent in the country, with the ups and downs of showbiz realities. He was definitely marked by his four local albums and a lot of collaborations with some of the country’s artists, followed by two releases of officially international albums in London with world village, the only world distribution label in addition to its many business trips made during the last ten years. Carlou D used his talent and passion for history to trace the history of Afro music through gospel, spiritual music that has some similarity with the Zikroulah a Sufi style well known at home in Senegal in the world of the BAYE FALL movement to which he belongs and which he represents in his music, his style of dress, and even in his behavior as a human being on earth. The baye fall have their own constitution composed of different rules established by a single guide and this for more than a century kept and recalled by their descendants to the different generations. His compositions aim further and wider, his music speaks to any generation confused and takes source between Senegal his native country Mali Guinea Gambia and Mauritania he considers a single country the Mandingo Empire. The experience of the Sahelian people in its geographical and historical dimension defines the music of CARLOU D. A word about the MUZIKR: It is a multidimensional music Combined between gospel, jazz, soul, R&B, Reggae and rap. It is an afro-thematic music that defines its style from its subject to its target. This musical genre is also initiated by Carlou D. The first international album released in October 2010 has earned him the closing of the great WOMEX FESTIVAL one of the largest and most credible music market in Europe and around the world. Since then, concert series have been run by him and his band in Senegal with which he started the live show that we know him as a stage beast.
The Afrik Impact Festival aims to celebrate the impact of the African Immigrants in the state of Colorado and to honor our accomplishments. The Afrik Impact Month Celebration kicks off with the Community Cultural Event and Concert with special guest Carlou D.
African Leadership Group
African Leadership Group (ALG) is an established, 15-year-old Colorado nonprofit created to serve and improve the quality of life of the African immigrant community. We do this through social, education and economic programs such as youth empowerment and public speaking classes reaching thousands of individuals. Every year during the month of August, we celebrate loudly and proudly the impact African immigrants have in the state of Colorado.
Covid-19 pandemic struck the entire world like a lightning bolt, school districts shutdown, businesses closed, living rooms became offices and schools, everyone had to self-quarantine. Our lives as we knew it suddenly changed in an instant!
The African Immigrant community reached out to us for help and we refused to watch our kids fall behind and fail in school, we were in a position to respond. We redirected resources to the needs of the community because this is what mattered in the moment. We moved all in-person programs to virtual!
With the support of donors and partners, we implemented the following programs:
Remote learning pod
Online tutoring
Family Assistance Gift card
Meal delivery
