AFRICAN DIASPORA TOWN HALL MEETING

The African Union defines the African Diaspora as people of African origin living outside the continent, irrespective of their citizenship and nationality, and willing to contribute to developing Africa and building the African Union.

Today, the African Diaspora represents more than two hundred million people of African descent who live outside of Africa and will soon comprise 0.25% of the global population. People of African descent send more than $40 billion a year to residents of their home country. However, the Diaspora has more to offer beyond remittances. Most importantly, the African Diaspora has skills, knowledge, entrepreneurial capabilities, and vast wealth they do not send home but save outside Africa each year.

The participation of the Diaspora profoundly impacts the advancement of education, science, technology, innovation, trade, and investment by alleviating poverty and driving economic development in Africa. Their contributions enrich these sectors and foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, propelling sustainable growth and prosperity across the continent.
