The Forsyth Farmers’ Market, in partnership with the Nurses’ Guild Ministry at Savannah’s historic First Bryan Street Baptist Church, will present an African Heritage Cooking Series with free weekly classes through Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
Please note those who sign up are committing to attend the remaining classes in the series, which will take place on the following dates from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First Bryan Street Baptist Church, located at 575 West Bryan Street in Savannah, Ga.

The weekly classes will introducte participants to the African Heritage Diet Pyramid. Additional highlights include an overview of traditional foods and regional flavors associated with the African diaspora, a discussion on the nutrition and evidence-based health benefits associated with eating traditional African cuisine and an engaging cooking demonstration.
As the series progresses, each class will focus on one section of the African Heritage Diet Pyramid, including leafy greens, whole grains, beans, tubers and fruits and vegetables. Participants will learn how to identify food items in each section of the pyramid and study the importance of plant-based foods to African health and heritage. At each of the interactive classes, participants will enjoy a cooking demonstration and tasting of the delicious meal they helped create.
The African Heritage Cooking Series classes are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome. Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
