This course culminates in a performance at the Little Big Bang on Saturday December 14th.
This course will take you deep, deep into the beat, deep into a connection with the djembe. The rhythms you learn will stay with you for life.
By the end of the course you will be fully prepared to perform with Elliott's student group Zormiwasa at the Little Big Bang on Saturday December 14th, if you so choose.
No need to be shy and don't fret, you will be part of an exciting big group and as they say, "there's safety in numbers" ha ha!
This is the perfectly paced course in how to play the djembe. Perfect for beginners through to advanced drummers.
Are you open to planting some deep African rhythms into your psyche?
Are you willing to create a collective sonic vibration with a dedicated group of like-minded switched-on people?
Fully facilitated by one of Australia’s most experienced and popular teachers of African rhythm, Elliott Orr.
Be guided into feeling a connection with rhythm, with yourself and with the people around you.
Ensemble drumming like this can quite literally expand your mind. New neural pathways will be created in your brain, expanding your corpus callosum.
Simple individual parts entwine to create a complex tapestry of totally danceable trance-inducing music. This is the perfect example of the adage “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”.
With full respect to the traditional owners of this music, the Malinke people of Africa, Elliott will talk about the history of the djembe as well as the complexities and techniques of playing the djembe.
You may have danced to Elliott’s playing before at the Earth Freq, Island Vibe, Woodford or Aruanda Festivals or even at the Brunz or the Beach Hotel!
He leads the African rhythm ensemble Spankinhide and performs regularly with Bobby Alu, Mood Swing and Chevy Bass, Ganga Giri and the Palm Wine Ambassadors, amongst a bunch of other groups.
This is 100% open to complete beginners AND also perfect for experienced players. Elliott can teach multiple levels in the one session.
There are plenty of drums to hire if you don’t have your own.
