Gift an experience not ‘stuff’!
I think most of us in Australian society will agree that we all have too much ‘stuff’, but life shouldn’t be about stuff, it should be about experience.
Why not gift someone an experience instead of more stuff, better yet why not do it together! Spending time with someone and doing activities together is the best way to show that we appreciate them. Check out some of the great aspects of group drumming that you’d be exposing your gift recipient to!
Group drumming has been shown to:
~ Improve cognitive function and build new neural networks
~ Stimulate the memory centers in the brain
~ Improve coordination and mind body connection
~ Get the heart pumping and blood flowing
At the same time you will:
~ Meet new people and build social cconnection
~ Learn about West African rhythm and culture
~ Improve your sense of rhythm
~ Step out of you comfort zone
~ Take a holiday from the everyday pressures of life.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is accessible to people of all levels of drumming experience, including beginners. Never drummed before? This is the place to start and to see if you like it prior to enrolling in a full term of classes.
What to expect
In a beginner Djembe Alchemy workshop, we generally start by settling in, finding our spot and a drum and introducing ourselves. We will warm up with some sort of rhythm activity, go over some basics of how to drum and then start to learn a traditional West African rhythm. By the end we will be rocking the rhythm together with big smiles. You will hopefully go home feeling happy, activated, energised but also with a sense of release. During the session it’s guaranteed that you will forget about other life stresses.
Can I bring my own drum?
Yes, if you have a Djembe then please bring it. We recommend a drum that’s at least 50cm tall, that sits above your knees when placed on the ground between your legs in normal seated position on a standard chair. It will be hard to properly participate and play properly with anything smaller. Please contact us for a chat if you’d like to bring an alternative or smaller drum so that we can evaluate if it would be suitable.
We also have hire drums available.
Let’s get started!
So why wait? Join us for this workshop and experience the joy of African Djembe Drumming. Let the rhythm move you, let the rhythm move through you, and become a part of our vibrant drumming community.
