Come join us for a fun-filled day of African dance , Calming clay, and Creative expression!
This workshop is part of SALA Festival 2024 and it will immerse you in the vibrant world of African dance and creativity. Learn groovy dance moves, get your hands dirty with air-dry clay, and unleash your creativity as you make unique creations. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to have a blast and explore their artistic side.
What to expect
The workshop will begin with 30 min of moving your body to groovy Afro beats music! Lead by friendly guide Sammy Maiamissata Doncamara you will learn some vibrant and flowing African fusion moves. Great for all levels including total beginners.
The next 2 hours you will be invited to let your creativity flow and let some worries roll off your shoulders in this tactile workshop using air-dry clay. We have two different projects depending on if you come on Thurs 22nd or Friday 30th August.
African Fabrics with Air-dry Clay, Thursday 22th August : Uplifting wax print fabric meets practical air-dry clay in this unique workshop. Learn some basic pottery techniques and how to combine these beautiful fabrics with the ceramic pieces you make. By the end of the session you will have made 1 -2 practical items for your home or office. Air-dry clay takes 2 days to fully dry, no kiln needed. All materials supplied.
WORKSHOP INCLUDES:
-30 min of African dance
-Air-dry clay and a variety of wax print fabric from West Africa.
-Clear step by step guidance.
-A variety of design ideas to play with.
-An opportunity to be creative.
-1- 2 finished trinket dishes
Lucky-charm Wall-hanging, Friday 30th August: Let your creativity flow as you create your own wall hanging using air-dry clay. With a combination of clay, specialty beads and twine you will learn how to make your unique Lucky Charm Wall Hanging from scratch. By the end of the session you will have made one special item to hang in your home, office or car. Air-dry clay takes 2 days to fully dry, no kiln needed. All materials supplied.
EACH CLASS or WORKSHOP INCLUDES:
-30min of African dance
-Air-dry clay, a selection of specialty beads, wool/twine and sequins.
-Clear step by step guidance.
-A variety of design ideas to play with.
-An opportunity to be creative.
-1 finished Lucky Charm Wall Hanging.
Please arrive 10 min early to register.
