The year 2022 is pivotal in the world of football. The world will convene in Qatar for the 22nd FIFA World Cup tournament featuring 32 nations. Africa will have five representatives. Africa’s performance in the showpiece has been consistently disappointing, with the best showings being Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010), making it to the quarter-final stage. Many find this surprising, pointing to the rich football talent across the continent and the presence of world-class African players in the big leagues. However, we have to note skill alone is not enough. There is a great need to invest in knowledge creation and dissemination systems, quality infrastructure, and collaborative and progressive leadership to transform the continent’s football.
The inaugural Africa Football Business Summit aims to assemble some of the best minds in football business management across Africa and beyond. The event is an open multi-stakeholder platform with attendance expected from governments, national federations and associations, leagues, clubs, academies, the private sector, local and international development agencies, etc. The Summit aims to kickstart conversations, create networks and mobilise investment to transform the beautiful game on the continent.
