Celine Leonard qualified as an acupuncturist in 1987 and as a herbalist in1995. She has a PhD in English Literature which she earned at the
University of California, Santa Cruz, US in 1984. She then changed careers
and decided to specialise in Chinese Medicine. She began to specialise in
gynaecology and infertility in the late 1990s and began to work with the
Merrion Fertility Clinic, Dublin when it was founded in 2002. Her main
practice is at 33 Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2.
She is a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (UK and
Ireland). She is current chair of the IRCMH, the Irish Register of Chinese
Medical Herbalists.
She was herbal representative to the National Working Group set up by the
Department of Health and Children to advise on the regulation of
complementary practitioners. She has been an external examiner to the post
graduate course in herbal medicine at the College of Integrated Chinese
Medicine, Reading, UK and twice for the MSc in CHM in the Northern
College of Acupuncture, York, UK. She has lectured undergraduates and
post graduate students in Ireland in gynaecology and infertility. She has
also lectured at the TCM Kongress in Rothenberg and has twice taught a
course with colleagues in Zurich for those practitioners wishing to
specialise in the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for those
patients trying to conceive and undergoing assisted reproductive technology
(ART) protocols such as IVF at fertility clinics.
She is co-author with Dr Wu and Dr Michael Haeberle of Female Infertility
& Reproductive Gynaecology: A Comprehensive Clinical Manual of
Integrated Chinese Medicine and Biomedicine recently published by the
JCM press in the UK. This was a 10 year project on her behalf to make
important material available to western practitioners and to help increase
the skill base of those practicing in the field of gynaecology and infertility.
