About the Panelists:
Julie Bevan Executive Director, Museum London
Julie Bevan is a passionate leader and a believer in museums as places of belonging, imagination, and transformation. In 2022 she joined the team at Museum London as Executive Director. Before coming to London, Julie spent over a decade in Nanaimo, BC, on Snuneymuxw territory, where she served in roles at the City of Nanaimo and Nanaimo Art Gallery, collaborating with artists and teams to realize contemporary art projects and learning programs, revitalizing cultural spaces, and building organizational capacity and community. She has served in positions at Glenbow Museum (Calgary), Belkin Art Gallery (Vancouver), and the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), and has been involved with Canadian Art Museums Director's Organization as a board director, with BC Museums Association as a mentor, and with many other organizations as part of a commitment to learning and contributing to a thriving sector. Julie earned a BA Honours from Carleton University in Art History (2004) and a MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies from the University of British Columbia (2006) and was a fellow at the Getty Leadership Institute (2017). She is raising two children with her partner Chad.
Matthew Chater, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario
In his role as CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Southwestern Ontario since January 2023, W. Matthew Chater brings a heartfelt commitment and over twenty years of experience in the social impact sector.
Matthew's connection to RMHC is deeply personal, rooted in the critical support his family received from the RM Family Room at Children's Hospital during a challenging period when his twin sons were in the NICU. This experience has deeply influenced his work, driving him to make a significant impact on the lives of young people and their families.
Leading with humility and vision at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, he guided the organization through transformative strategic and fundraising initiatives.
Holding bachelor's degrees in psychology and education from Lakehead University and a master's in educational policy studies from Western University, Matthew's educational and professional journey equips him with a unique perspective on leadership in the nonprofit sector.
His story is a testament to the transformative power of community support and the importance of compassionate leadership.
Andrew Lockie, CEO, YMCA Southwestern Ontario
Andrew has worked for the YMCA for parts of 25 years, starting as a camp counsellor in 1991, and eventually becoming the Camp Director at Camp Queen Elizabeth prior before becoming the Vice President, Educational Services. In addition to his time at YMCA of Western Ontario, he has also worked at YMCA Sudbury and YMCA Christchurch, New Zealand.
Andrew left the YMCA in August 2009 to become the CEO at United Way London & Middlesex. During his time at United Way Andrew grew the fundraising campaign and led several community wide initiatives, including Chairing the Ending Poverty Work Group for the Child and Youth Network, and being named to the Mayorβs Panel to End Poverty.
He returned to the YMCA as CEO 2016 and now works to support service delivery to nearly 200,000 participants through over 2,000 employees at nearly 165 service delivery sites from Windsor to Woodstock. During his time in the role his Y has opened three new major facilities, opened a new overnight summer camp, merged with YMCAs across Southwestern Ontario, and grown to become the third largest YMCA in Canada.
He holds a BA from McMaster University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University, and certificates in Performance Measurement and Strategic Perspectives for Non Profit Management from Harvard University.
