Our annual Taster Session is the perfect way to experience this rich Afro-Brazilian tradition and give it a go!
We are Afon Sistema, a Bristol-based maracatu collective, dedicated to recreating the powerful rhythms and spirit of Maracatu de Baque Virado here in the UK. During this session, you’ll be introduced to the instruments, songs, and cultural background of maracatu in a welcoming group setting.
Participants who enjoy the session will have the opportunity to join our year-long course, where we explore maracatu in depth — its history, music, and performance — while developing your skills as part of our drumming and singing community.
