About this Event

ABOUT THE CUISINE

Afghan cuisine is a delicious blend of Central and South Asian influences, known for its balance of fragrant spices, slow-cooked stews, and comforting rice dishes. Signature dishes like Kabuli - rice cooked with carrots and raisins - capture the heart of Afghan home cooking, offering a perfect mix of sweetness, spice, and tradition. Afghan food is made to be shared; it’s rich, aromatic, and deeply social, reflecting the warmth and hospitality of its people.

ABOUT THE CHEF

A messge from chef Vida:

“Hi, my name is Vida. I’m from Afghanistan and was born in Kabul, the capital city.

I learnt to cook from my mother and grandmother. My mother was always cooking for our big family and often needed my help. She would show me how to make something one day, and then the very next day, she’d ask me to do it myself. That’s how I learnt so much. Especially desert, I love desert the best, and am always making sweet treats.

Two years ago, I started a small business cooking from home through All About the Cooks. People could order my food, and it would be delivered all over Bristol. My food was very popular. At one point, I was getting orders for up to 100 people!

Back in Kabul, I studied mathematics at university and later taught maths in an all-boys private school.

Now, I’m excited to teach again—but this time, a different subject. The subject is food, and the classroom is the kitchen.

I’m happiest when I’m in my kitchen. I play music, focus on cooking, and enjoy being in my own world. It’s my happy place, and I’m so happy to share it with you.”

THE CLASS FORMAT

Our cookery classes are family-style – everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team.

While you’ll choose one dish to focus on, you’ll also have the opportunity to move around the kitchen, help with other dishes, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun, social, and collaborative cookery class where you’ll gain hands-on experience, new skills, and an authentic taste of Afghan culture.

At the end of the class, you’ll sit down with chef Vida, your classmates, and our team to enjoy the meal you’ve created together.
