Affirmation Drumming

This session will focus on mind, emotional, spiritual, and interpersonal connection. To start the session, cards with various positive affirmations will be laid out. Each session member will be asked to select an affirmation that they feel resonates with them in the moment. After selecting an affirmation, session members will engage in a brief journaling exercise to reflect on their affirmation.
After journaling, session members will be asked to select a hand drum. From there, McKenzie will lead a drumming experience which will center around incorporating session members’ affirmations into rhythms followed by call and response drumming and group drumming.
Session FAQs
What is a positive affirmation?
Essentially, it is a statement of positive thinking or self empowerment that you tell yourself to help create a positive mindset. Utilizing positive affirmations can be seen as more of a practice because it is something you have to tell yourself many times before it starts to take effect. Often, you may begin with an affirmation to yourself that you don’t necessarily believe. Over time and with repeated practice, it is something you start to fully believe.
What if I’ve never used a drum before or have very little experience?
That’s okay! The drums are not necessarily the primary focus. Rather, they will serve as a conduit to help reinforce your positive affirmation. McKenzie will also be there to guide you along the way so that you are able to have a positive experience.
What if I feel nervous or uncomfortable sharing?
If this is the case, take a moment to reflect and remember that others are likely feeling the same way! If you are signing up for this session, it is more than likely because you are looking for connection. Connection occurs during moments of vulnerability. Some of the most beautiful moments occur when you open yourself up to others. You may just find that others have had similar experiences when you choose to share!
The cost for this event is $30. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or pay at the Church or on the Church website. Half the proceeds will be going to the Church.
