Abstract: This talk is a little bit different from a more conventional presentation in the sense that it covers a wide range of topics rather than a single one. The idea is to provide the participants a glimpse of what is happening across the various sectors in which the subsurface plays a pivotal role. By no means will this be an exhaustive overview, but rather a presentation of some peculiar stories that have recently emerged or popped up on the desk of your nosy subsurface energy editor Henk Kombrink. He will run through some examples from the Oil and Gas, CCS, Geothermal and hydrogen sectors that will generate some discussion with the audience and whilst doing so, might generate some follow-up ideas at the same time! And last but not least, this being a talk rather than the usual article means that some geo-gossip can be thrown into the mix as well.
Bio: After completing his MSc in Physical Geography, Henk regretted not having done a Geology degree, so he embarked on a PhD studying the Carboniferous of the Netherlands straight after. This got him hooked on the geology of the North Sea, which he continued working on for quite a number of years in different positions. From the age of 40, when he was let go by a consultancy firm in Aberdeen when the pandemic unfolded, he was forced to become a little bit more creative. This resulted in becoming the editor for GEO EXPRO and launching North Sea Core, a company that distributes "unwanted" core to the global geoscience community.
