AERIAL HOOP DYNAMICS
STRUCTURE
Both days we will start with a dynamic warmup and move on to active flexibility drills specifically put together to help us in our aerial work. I am an advocate of active flexibility and we will cover a big variety of active drills as passive flexibility alone is not enought to translate to usable range of motion on the hoop or any aerial apparatus. We will focus on strengthening our body at our end range of motion through a variety of exercises on the floor that prepare the body in order to actively and safely achieve it's full range of motion in the air. Focusing on splits/legs on Saturday and shoulders/backbends on Sunday.
We will then move on to an aerial warm up with some preparatory and conditioning exercises on the hoop.
Moving on, on Saturday we will work on a flow sequence from my own personal work and we will go through a variety of creative tools that will help each person make the flow unique by finding and incorporating their own personal way of movement/style. We will go through movement combinations that can be used both on static and spinning hoop. Once we technically "have" the material we can really start getting creative with it, lets see where it will take us!
While on Sunday, we will focus on dynamic movement. Each on their own level and comfort we will work on creating and maintaining momentum, tempos and timing as well as how to make the most out of swinging movements on the hoop while going through a series of technical dynamic moves that can either be linked in a variety of combinations or practiced separately.
In the end of each day we will finish with a series of rehabilitating exercises and stretches that help release tension, prevent injuries and improve our flexibility.
LEVEL
This is not a stricktly intermediate/advanced workshop as most movements can be modified but it is for people who have some previous experience with the hoop. Being able to invert on any aerial apparatus is a must!
CLOTHING
You want to wear tight clothing covering the waist, armpits and the legs and have with you a tight long sleeve top too. Any extra protection/layers for arms/legs/back is always more than welcomed.

About Elli:
Elli Skourogianni is a circus artist based in France, specialized in aerial hoop, contortion and handbalancing. She started her career as a rhythmic gymnast and now has a coaching degree from the British Gymnastics Foundation. Fell in love with circus accidentally in Scotland and started her performing arts journey at CODARTS University of the Arts in Rotterdam where she completed the BA Circus Arts degree after finishing the MA Architecture degree which she was attending at the time. Since then she has performed for various events and festivals and teaches her disciplines to a wide audience varying from kids to professionals both online and in person. From 2023 she is the associate artist of La Voliere in France where she develops and tours with them her two shows, "Lost within myselves" and "Restricted".
