Aeneas in the Underworld: an oratorio

A collaboration between guitarist Colin McAllister and composer Christopher Adler, Aeneas in the Underworld is an epic musical journey recounting the sixth book of Vergil’s Aeneid, in which the hero descends into the underworld and meets the shade of his father, who reveals to the hero the future glories of Rome. This unique musical work combines oratory and original music for a soloist who recites in the original Latin while performing on guitar, accompanied by ensemble and electronics. Projected supertitles feature a newly commissioned English translation.
