Blurring the lines between tradition and experiment, this evening traces the soul’s journey from the personal to the universal. The Anuraag Dhoundeyal Collective premieres Adwitīya – a concept album that reflects on the discovery of the non-dual self through Sufi verses, Kabir poetry, folk songs, and Vedantic philosophy. The performance unfolds through a lush sonic landscape shaped by Indian classical melodies and the textures of jazz, funk, neo-soul, and global folk.
The ensemble is led by vocalist-composer Anuraag Dhoundeyal, whose lifelong engagement with Indian mysticism and cross-cultural music has informed acclaimed performances across India, the UK, and the US. Joining him is multi-instrumentalist Shirish Malhotra, celebrated for his work across flute, saxophone, and bansuri in projects ranging from Coke Studio to the Symphony Orchestra of India.
Karim Ellaboudi, a UK-based pianist with Sudanese-Egyptian roots, brings expressive depth from his work in R&B, funk, and world music. Arka Chakraborty, a genre-fluid pianist and educator, draws from jazz, European classical, and spontaneous improvisation to add harmonic richness. Bassist Shashank Das anchors the sound with deep grooves and a seasoned global jazz sensibility, while 21-year-old Arjun Chakraborty – a rising force in India’s jazz scene – drives the rhythm section with nuance and flair.
Together, this cross-cultural collective offers a meditative soundscape, where poetry becomes rhythm, and every note searches for something beyond the self.
