Camping tonight at Awelani Lodge - good ablutions Sunday 31 August Depart from Awelani, drive to the specially created “Tourism Access Facility” on the banks of the Limpopo river which forms the natural border between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Have your passport stamped on the SA side before CROSSING THE LIMPOPO RIVER, and again as you arrive on the Zimbabwean side. THIS IS EPIC STUFF !!! (Never been done before in this location) Now officially in Zimbabwe, we drive into the Sengwe corridor and wild camp in the bush - no facilities Monday 01 September Officially enter the wild Gonarezhou National Park and drive further north into the wilderness. This area is home to an estimated 11,000 elephants, hence the Gonarezhou National Park truly deserves its vernacular name: ‘Place of Elephants’. The Park forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Parks, which is one of the largest protected areas on the continent spanning three countries. Wild camp in the wilderness - no facilities Tuesday 02 Sep Gonarezhou National Park, in Zimbabwe’s South-East Lowveld covers just over 5,000 km² of spectacular scenery incorporating the iconic Chilojo Cliffs, wide meandering rivers, and extensive woodlands. Widely known for its unique wilderness character, the Park’s reputation as a premier destination for quality wildlife sightings continues to grow. Wild wild camp in the vicinity of the Chilojo Cliffs - no facilities Wednesday 03 Sep Explore this magnificent park, which is managed by the Gonarezhou Trust. This is an innovative model for protected area management, which was arranged between the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Built on the base of a strong relationship developed over 9 years of support by FZS for Gonarezhou, the Trust is directly responsible for the management of the Park for a period of 20 years and became fully operational on 1st March 2017. Wild camp on a riverbed - no facilities Thursday 04 Sep Drive a loop through the park before returning to the Runde river and the spectacular Chipinda Pools, with its history rooted in the park's early establishment and its role as a base for exploring this magnificent wilderness area. Camping in the vicinity of Chipinda Pools - Ablution facilities Friday 05 Sep Exit the park and drive around the park to the Sango border post. Exit Zimbabwe and enter Mozambique at the Chiqualaquala border post. We continue our travels and follow the tracks all along the border line back into the Limpopo river valley. Wild camp on the banks of the Limpopo river - no ablutions Saturday 06 Sep Cross the Limpopo river again to exit Mozambique and enter South Africa to Kruger National Park via the Pafuri border post. Drive through the lovely Pafuri area before exiting the Park at the Pafuri gate. 10 km further we arrive back at Awelani lodge for festivities, prize giving and a gala dinner! Camp at Awelani - Ablution facilities, or book into the lodge at your own expense.
