About this Event
AOOA and Growing Adventures have teamed up to offer an exciting lineup of hands-on sessions exclusively for kids. Packed with sensory stations, fine and gross motor skill activities, crafts, and movement, these open-ended, child-led adventures spark creativity, fuel curiosity, and inspire joyful exploration outside on the farm!
May 2 - Bees, Butterflies and Bugs!
Buzz into a flower-filled adventure exploring pollinators! Kids will collect “nectar” with droppers, pollinate flowers using tweezers, and arrange flower petals and leaves into beautiful nature patterns. They’ll flap, wiggle, and buzz through obstacle courses while the mud kitchen serves up honeycomb pancakes and nectar potions.
May 9 - Dig, Plant, Grow!
Little hands will dig, plant, and water in this garden-themed play session! Kids will explore soil, dig holes, and enjoy sensory bins filled with seeds and beans. They will explore plant and flower life cycle materials, as well as fine motor fun while threading leaf garlands and pressing flowers. In the mud kitchen, they’ll mix up garden soups and flower pies for a true springtime adventure!
May 16 - Frogs, Toads & Pond Pals
Hop into a pond-themed adventure! Kids will jump like frogs, and explore murky pond themed sensory bins to discover the surprises below! Sensory play includes dipping our hands into squishy frog “eggs” and a pond-themed scavenger hunt. In the mud kitchen, little chefs will whip up swamp soup and pond punch.
May 23 - Tiny Builders: Sticks, Stones & Shelters
Calling all little engineers! Kids will build forts, fairy houses, and tiny shelters using sticks, rocks, and clay while practicing problem-solving and creativity. They’ll balance, stack and lift materials - choosing to work together or individually. In the mud kitchen, they’ll mix up brick batter and stick stew for their woodland friends.
May 30 - Fairy Tales & Forest Magic
Step into a magical forest of imagination! Kids will create fairy wings, mix nature potions, or immerse themselves in a fairy and gnome little world set-up. Sensory play includes glittering “fairy dust” bins and a nature treasure hunt. They’ll twirl, leap, and gallop like their favorite fantasy creatures, while the mud kitchen serves up enchanted elixirs!
Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, please register in advance! Ages 1 ½ - 6
Caregivers are required to stay and actively supervise their children 3 years or younger. While our facilitators guide activities, this is a time for family connection, shared discovery, and nature play together! For older children (4+) who have a bit more independent spirit, parents must remain on the AOOA grounds where they can visit the Farmstand or take a stroll around the property.
Growing Adventures facilitators will not be able to take children to the restroom so please keep this in mind by having your child use the bathroom before the event. We ask that you please stay accessible to your older child(ren) if they require support locating and/or using the bathroom!
About the instructor:
Growing Adventures, founded by Meghan Sabbagh and Dani Toohey, is the vision of a mother of two young children and dedicated school-based pediatric occupational therapist (OT), who saw a vital piece of childhood fading away: the joy and developmental benefits of outdoor, nature-based, child-led play. Recognizing the importance of letting children get messy, explore, create, and dig into their natural surroundings, she teamed up with her sister, a fellow outdoor enthusiast OT with a rich background in neurorehabilitation, physical disability and environmental modification. Their mission is to provide both formal outdoor OT services and community events that invite children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to learn, explore, create, and grow through play.
