Free with admissionJoin the Museum’s curator for a unique holiday tour featuring saints, prophets, and scenes connected to this special time of year.
The icons featured in this tour offer a rich and, at times, surprising glimpse into the Christmas season of Orthodox Christianity.
For Eastern Christians, the Christmas season is an intense 80-day period of fasting and feasting that stretches from November 15 through February 2 and frames the central event of Christ’s Nativity at Christmas on December 25.
The icons of this long winter season invite the beholder to meditate on the cosmic significance of Christmas and range from the prophets of the Old Testament, like King David, down through the saints of the church, like Nicholas.
