About this Event
The simulation explores the relationship between new technologies and U.S-China crisis decision-making during inter-state conflicts. Players simulate government officials assigned to develop a response to a maritime crisis involving the United States and China in which new advanced military technologies are at play. The aim is to better understand the role that emerging technologies play in crisis decision-making and how crisis escalation might occur in a world with new capabilities and vulnerabilities.
As an expert in national security, your participation is key to the success of this simulation and research project and, ultimately, to the success of efforts to create policies, capabilities, and legislation that ensures international stability and minimizes the risks associated with inter-state conflict. The U.S.-China Crisis Simulation war game is a half-day event, but it is a part of a larger set of games being played across the United States.
As a player, you will be given a hypothetical crisis scenario and a briefing on relevant capabilities and threats. Together with other players, you will form a team representing U.S. government officials assigned the task of developing comprehensive response plan to the crisis. The event will conclude with a plenary session in which players will share lessons learned from the war game and suggest potential recommendations for policies on emerging threats and crisis dynamics.
The second half of the day will include follow-on discussions and collaborations on how to strategically plan to win a war against a peer competitor.
