About the speakers:

Linda J. Smith, MPH, FACCE, IBCLC, FILCA is a lactation consultant, childbirth educator, author, and internationally-known consultant on breastfeeding and birthing issues. Linda serves as liaison to the World Health Organization’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative. As a La Leche League Leader and Lamaze-certified Childbirth Educator, she provided education and clinical support to diverse families over 45 years in 9 cities in the USA and Canada. Linda has worked in a 3-hospital system in Texas, a public health agency in Virginia, and served as Breastfeeding coordinator for the Ohio Department of Health. Linda recently served on the Board of Directors of La Leche League International; was a founder of IBLCE, founder and past board member of ILCA, and is a delegate to the United States Breastfeeding Committee from the American Breastfeeding Institute. Linda holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health and is currently an adjunct Instructor at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and an affiliate faculty member of the Union Institute and University. She owns the Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre, on the Internet at www.BFLRC.org.

Laurel Wilson, IBCLC, RLC, BSc, INHC, CLSP is an author, TEDx and international keynote, speaker, and pregnancy and lactation specialist. She served as the Executive Director of Lactation Programs for CAPPA, the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association for 17 years. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the United States Breastfeeding Committee, as CAPPA Senior Advisor, and was on the board for Kindred World. She currently serves as an Advisor for InJoy Health and is on the board for the Colorado Breastfeeding Coalition. She owns MotherJourney, focusing on training perinatal professionals on integrative and holistic information regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding and Thrive with Laurel, focusing on supporting women during perimenopause and menopause. She has her degree in Maternal Child Health: Lactation Consulting and is an international board certified lactation consultant. Wilson is the co-author of two books, The Attachment Pregnancy and The Greatest Pregnancy Ever and contributing author to Round the Circle: Doulas Talk About Themselves. She loves to blend today’s recent scientific findings with the mind/body/spirit wisdom. Laurel has been joyfully married to her husband for more than three decades and has two wonderful grown sons, whose difficult births led her on a path towards helping emerging families create positive experiences. Laurel spends her free time reading piles of research, hiking in the mountains with her dogs, kayaking, and cooking. She believes that the journey into parenthood is a life-changing rite of passage that should be deeply honored and celebrated.

MALC is an affiliate of USLCA. Its purpose is to create opportunities for education, networking, professional support, and recognition of the promotion and practice of those who support breastfeeding families

Continuing Education

CERPs - Lactation CERPs award application has been made to the IBLCE. To be eligible for CERPs, participants must attend the entire activity & submit an evaluation form.

Nursing Contact Hours -This activity has been submitted to the Ohio Nurse Association (OBN -001-91) for approval to award contact hours. The Ohio Nurse Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The participant must attend the entire activity & submit an evaluation form.
