Handmade paper offers a world of creative possibilities. In this workshop, participants learn how to go beyond the conventional rectangular shape of paper by crafting their unique frames to create their costume-shaped paper. Participants will learn how to make simple geometrical, organic-shaped paper for their creative project. Additionally, I also demonstrate how to layered their shape paper in order to create two-sided color-shaped paper. his hands-on experience will assist participants to design and craft personalized paper creations.
This workshop will provide a low-tech foundation in papermaking that is infinitely expandable for students with limited access to studio facilities. It is also non-toxic and can even be implemented into educational programs with young children.
Participants are encouraged to bring one or more of the following materials: favourite book quotes, poetry, or even fragments of lace, special threads, or yarn and dried plants. The instructor will also bring a curated selection of materials.
What you will learn in this 2-hour workshop:
- The participants learn how to make shaped paper by using foam board, to create shaped paper according to their vision. They make geometric shapes such as circles, triangles, or hexagon-shaped paper or cut out unique shapes.

- Students may Discover the joy of incorporating meaningful elements into their shaped paper. So they can Bring along cherished prints, favourite book quotes, original poetry, or even fragments of lace and dried plants)

About the instructor:
Yasaman Moussavi is an artist and educator. She holds an MFA and a BFA and is currently pursuing a PhD in Art Education at the University of British Columbia. Yasaman is fascinated by how the immersive and embodied experiences of public spaces and site-specific art can inspire the imagination to overcome the alienation caused by precarity. Yasaman is passionate about community art and its potential to raise social awareness. Through her papermaking art practices, she uses recycled paper as a medium for collaborative and creative expression of identities, stories, and values. What to wear:
We Suggest wearing or bringing a waterproof apron. If their hands are sensitive to water, participants can bring gloves to wear.
