Mark your calendars for the 2025 Advanced ELENA Course on International Protection in Europe!
This year the course will take place on Friday 7 November to Saturday 8 November in Sliema, Malta.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in European asylum and migration law and to engage with practitioners, academics and decision-makers from all over Europe.
This year’s course will explore recent jurisprudence and practices of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights, while additionally informing and updating participants on the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the Convention on the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer. The course will also provide a space to learn and discuss digital rights and the use of AI and technology in asylum procedures.
Three workshops will offer participants the chance to gain practical knowledge of crucial topics such as litigating detention in the Pact, digital rights and legal guarantees for displaced victims of domestic violence. Conference programme
ECRE is honoured to announce the participation of several distinguished speakers, including Kathleen Gutman, Référendaire at the Court of Justice of the EU; Thomas Straub, Registry Lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights; Sarah Lincoln, Legal Director at The Society for Civil Rights; Markella Papadouli, Senior Lawyer for Europe at the AIRE Centre; and Laurent Pettiti, Chair of the European Convention Working Group at CCBE.
Who should attend?
The course is open for registration for human rights specialists, lawyers working in the field of migration and refugee law, EU and national officials.
Registration fees
• ELENA Coordinators: €430 euros
• NGOs, practitioners, others: €500 euros
• Government and international organisation officials: €570 euros

What is included in the registration fee?
Participation to the course on the 7 and 8 November, lunch on both days and coffee breaks as well as the social dinner on Friday 7 November evening.
Note that flights and accommodation are not covered and are the responsibility of participants.
