About this Event

Is learning to ride a bike something you have always wanted to do?

Maybe you think it'll be too hard? Maybe you are afraid to fall? Or perhaps you don't know who can help you. We have the perfect class for you.

Join us at this class and learn to balance, pedal, and roll. Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition's (SVBC's) friendly and patient instructors taught more than 300 people to ride. Those who attend will earn a prize!

"I went from glider to rider in 3 hours, so I am so happy." - Jennifer G.

"I felt like the instructors and participants understood how I felt about not knowing how to ride. It made me feel more comfortable to try." - Dina M.

"The instructors were amazing and taught me how to feel like a pro riding a bike with no experience." - Zaden H.

The class is held outdoors at El Camino High School in South San Francisco.

Prerequisites:

  1. Able to balance on one foot for 5 seconds
  2. Age 14 or older

We will cover different aspects of riding comfortably and safely to prevent falls - including helmet fit, bicycle fit, a pre-ride check, getting on and off the bike, and more.

Other things to bring:

  1. Helmet . We have a limited quantity to lend if you do not have a helmet already.
  2. Plenty of water, and a snack if desired.

Please bring a functional bicycle if you have one (see local bike shops if maintenance/repairs need to be done). If you or your teen need to borrow one, please include their height information (e.g. 5 ft 1 in or 155 cm).

We have a limited number of bikes available to rent for $35 for the class in the height range 4 ft 8 in - 6 ft 4 in (142.3 cm - 193 cm). Helmets will be available to borrow as well (sizes S - XL).

You can also see local bike shops for renting a well-fitting bike.

Parents/guardians do not need to be on site with their teens ages 14+.

Please add a ticket for each participant (separate names). There is limited capacity. Please cancel your order if you are no longer able to make it so someone else interested can attend.

Rental ticket cancellation policy: Please let us know at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance if you need to cancel. Refund requests made less than 72 hours in advance will not be granted.

This class is provided to the public for at no cost for attendees courtesy of funding from Measures A & W by the TA, C/CAG, and Commute.org.
