Our goal is to provide a safe place where you can talk about your loss, share your story, and express your grief.
About this Event

Join our free peer support group to connect with others who have lost a sibling. Facilitated by a trained peer support volunteer, this is an opportunity for you to meet others who are currently experiencing or have experienced a significant loss similar to yours. For ages 18+.

Please note: Once registered, our Program Coordinator will reach out to complete a New Member Intake with you.

BFO SW Adult Sibling Loss Group Themes 2023-2024

October: Catching Up and the Changing of Seasons – Are there any small changes we want to make in our own lives? + Grief 101 for new members (Mourner's Bill of Rights, normalizing experiences of bereaved siblings)

November: Navigating Winter – How does winter affect our grief and our mood? Winter self-care strategies (with illustration for inspiration)

December: Grief During the Holidays – Venting, Preparing, Sharing.

January: A New Year – What can we do to connect with our siblings and our memories, to feel less distant from them as time passes? Ideas: Continuing bonds, linking objects, favourite memories, doing things our siblings would want to do.

February: Emotions and Connections – Checking in with ourselves; how are we feeling? What are our supports? Activity: Draw a map/chart of our support network, resources, and relationships.

March: Spring Renewal – Is there anything new in our grief? New in our lives? Activity - Mindfulness and noticing beauty or positivity in one thing, or perhaps look for it during the next month.

April: Using the Karuna Card Deck to Reflect on Aspects of Our Grief. Activity – Prompts to reflect on/write about

May: Making a Memory Jar to hold precious and positive memories for when we need them.

June: Summer Self-Care Ideas – What are some small goals for the Summer?

*Note: Resources and helpful, relevant quotes or talking points may be added. Grief 101 material may be shared at any meeting as new members attend.
