Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge. Like physical First Aid and CPR, MHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis until professional assistance is obtained or the crisis is resolved. Studies show that MHFA training reduces stigma, improves knowledge, and increases first-aid actions toward people experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.During the course, you’ll build the skills and confidence to reach out and provide initial support to struggling people. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.
AFTER THE COURSE, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:
Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
Understand how to interact with a person in crisis.
Know how to connect a person with help.
Use self-care tools and techniques.
