NCAEYC is offering Adult Mental Health First Aid Training geared specifically toward early childhood administrators and program leaders
About this Event

NCAEYC is partnering with the ITTI Care Project and Alliance Health to offer an opportunity for child care administrators to become trained in Adult Mental Health First Aid free of charge!

Thanks to DCDEE for dedicating Preschool Development Funds to this initiative, there will be no charge to participants for the training or the boxed lunch that will be provided.

When: February 5, 2025

Where: Iredell County Partnership for Young Children, 734 Salisbury Rd., Statesville, NC. .

Time: 8:45 am - Registration check in

Training begins promptly at 9:00 am and concludes at 5:00 pm. You must be present for the entire training to receive credit hours

Registration is limited to 30 and only to those working in licensed child care programs who supervise teachers. If you are a child care administrator who can commit to this full day training, please register.

This training is NOT open to people who provide support to teachers and classrooms who are not onsite directly supervising and managing teachers. Please DO NOT register if you are not in a role supervising teachers directly in a licensed child care setting.

Participants will earn 7.5 hours of NC DCDEE Contact Hour Credits awarded through NCAEYC for completion of in-person training

About:

This training is being provided by NCAEYC, the ITTI Project, and Partners Health Management. The trainers from Partners Health Management are Meghann Lail & Stephanie Funderburk. Prior to the training, you will receive an email from either Meghann or Stephanie containing a link and instructions to complete the required, short, course pre-work which should take about 10-15 minutes. In order to be admitted to the event the course pre-work MUST be completed prior to the event..

Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.

Mental Health First Aid:

• Addresses common mental health concerns encountered by adults.

• Reduces stigma.

• Teaches strategies anyone can use to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges and offer support.

• Offers self-help strategies for staying mentally well.

Child Care Administrators experience high levels of stress daily and often their own mental health gets ignored as they juggle the needs of children, families and staff. They are in a unique and important role to support the mental health of the staff they supervise and the families they serve and this training is designed to help them help themselves, their friends and family members and the staff and parents they work with every day.

Topics to be covered during the training:

• Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.

• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.

• How to interact with a person in crisis.

• How to connect a person with help.

• Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care.

Participants will learn to:

• Assess for risk of suicide or harm

• Listen without judgment

• Give reassurance and Information

• Encourage appropriate professional help

• Encourage self-help and other support strategies
