Custom Template Designs and Surface Decoration

Workshop Description: Gain precision in handbuilding using templates to create functional forms. Ideal for those looking to expand their handbuilding skills, this workshop will guide participants through designing and constructing custom forms like plates, bowls, and butter dishes. Through hands-on instruction, you'll explore working with clay slabs and learn how to replicate accurate shapes using durable Tyvek templates. Then assemble these components into thoughtfully crafted finished forms.
Demonstration will also cover methods for adding surface design elements to personalize creations before and after forming. Techniques will include trailing, stenciling and resist methods in combination with underglaze on wet clay at the leather hard stage. Whether you're an experienced ceramicist or new to clay, this workshop provides the tools and techniques to produce consistent, refined forms. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of handbuilding and surface design, along with the skills to confidently create your own signature pieces.
***Students should be prepared to take home leather hard work or pick up bisque/glaze fired work for an additional cost at a later date. We will work at cone 6. Material costs are included in the cost of the workshop.
There will be an optional opportunity to join us for a Friday meet and greet with Adrienne to also learn about Idyllwild's Hot Clay Summer Program.
