Be a part of the Adirondack Plein Air Festival and see 40 artists capture the Adirondacks on canvas! 6 days of events, nationally known artists, hundreds of paintings and over $5,000 in prizes. Visitors are encouraged to grab a map and visit painters on site or attend one of our special events throughout the week!Monday, Aug 12: Check-in and surface stamping at the historic Hotel Saranac at 100 Main Street from 9am-5pm. Artists may start painting after they check-in. The public is welcome to the “Meet the Artists” reception hosted by the Hotel on their 2nd floor terrace from 7-9pm. The Hotel will also display Nocturne paintings in the Oak Room until Thursday night.
Tuesday, Aug 13: “Paint the VIC” - Artists will be at Paul Smith’s College VIC, a wonderful introduction to the Adirondack landscape with miles of easy hiking trails, mountain views, wetlands, forests, and more. Spectators are welcome to come and watch the artists paint!
Wednesday, Aug 14: “Paint the Adirondacks”- Artists are free to choose their own painting locations. Visitors are invited to pick up maps and watch the artists at work.
Thursday Aug 15: “Paint the Town” - Artists paint in the Village of Saranac Lake and produce small paintings for the silent auction. There will be a Third Thursday ArtWalk from 5-7:30pm, featuring live music, art displays, and demonstrations all over town. “Nocturne Contest” Judging announced at 7:30pm followed by an informal talk on the Plein Air movement by Eric Rhoads at 8pm.
Friday, Aug 16: “Paint the Saranac River” - Artists will paint at the Saranac Lake Fish & Game Club in the morning. Framed paintings are due at the Town Hall between 9am-2pm for judging.
The “Special Preview Party” starts at 6pm. Be the first to see hundreds of new paintings from the Festival and enjoy drinks and light bites. Tickets are $20 each, available at the door or online. Awards announced at 7:30pm.
Saturday, Aug 17: “Quick Draw” from 9-11am - Artists have just 2 hours to do a painting. Finished works are due on the front steps of the Town Hall at 11:15am, where a winner will be announced.
The SHOW & SALE opens to the public at 12pm with FREE admission. Hundreds of outstanding Adirondack paintings will be available for purchase, fresh off the easel. The Silent Auction closes at 4pm at the Adirondack Artists Guild and the Festival ends at 5pm.
Help celebrate the 16 years of success that Saranac Lake ArtWorks has achieved. The commissions on sales from the Adirondack Plein Air Festival help fund the year-round programs and activities of ArtWorks. It unable to attend, a donation would be graciously accepted.
