About this Event
Adaptive Robotics is an fun opportunity for persons (14yrs +) with intellectual disabilities to build and program LEGO robots based off of last year's FIRST LEGO League game. The camp will run Mondays from Sept. 15th to Nov. 3rd from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. (No class Oct. 13) Participatnts will work on a team of three ID builders and one student robotics coach to build a simple robot using Lego bricks in a positive team building environment. Paricipants will use fine motor skills, image directions and simple math to assemble and code (with a physical trial and error - ie: robot moves forward too much, decrease number, run again) a team robot. Game pieces are designed to move in fun ways when triggered by the participants' robot. The final session will be a showcase for friends and family to see the robots on a game field!
Each session will build on the previous, so please plan on attending all 7 sessions. Participants will be expected to meet ability and behaviour standards including working in teams, taking turns, respecting others, following safety rules (the room we will be in has an area with power tools that will be off limits), following 3-step instructions, using the bathroom alone, communicating with others, developed fine motor skills, and counting. This is a free program but is limited to 15 participants, so sign up today!
