Experience the rising stars of chamber music at the Adam Summer School Finale Concerts. The Adam Summer School, run by the New Zealand String Quartet (NZSQ), is an annual, residential music programme for young violin, viola, cello and piano students. Each February, up to 30 aspiring musicians gather in Nelson for eight days of intensive chamber music-making. They attend coaching sessions and masterclasses led by the NZSQ musicians and a renowned New Zealand pianist, and they connect with their peers from across the country to form life-long connections.
These two finale concerts are a chance for students to showcase a week’s worth of intensive training within their new ensemble.
In 2026, our 29 young musicians will be tutored by Gillian and Peter, violist and violinist of the NZSQ, plus our brand-new cellist, Martin Smith. Our guest violin tutor will be none other than Amalia Hall, and our guest piano tutor will the award-winning Jian Liu.
Since the very first School in 1995, more than 400 students have attended the Adam Summer School. Many of these alumni have gone on to illustrious careers in classical music all over the world. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to experience the next generation of Aotearoa chamber musicians in action.
