Active Hope: Building Resilience through Reading and Facilitated Conversation
During trying times that induce stress we can start to lose sight of not only our own resilience, but also experience overwhelming emotions. This can give rise to feelings of powerlessness and even avoidance which leads to isolation, higher risk of depression, anxiety and other mental health and physical concerns. Join us as we begin to work through and read together the book “Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re in with Unexpected Resilience and Creative Power” by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone. This reading group will work through reading this book together with the goals of:
Creating collaborative community
Decrease feelings of powerlessness regarding our political climate, climate change and economic upheaval
Build active resilience strategies to decrease mental health and physical symptoms associated with current stressors
Develop active ways we can increase our engagement in the world to address the issues that mean the most to us
This group will be facilitated by Suzanne Mueller, a local Licensed Clinical Mental Health Clinician and Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist.
Group will meet weekly for 6 weeks, working through two chapters per week. Participants are encouraged to participate in facilitated conversation even if weekly reading has not been done. Group is open to all who are interested in exploring ways to activate ourselves and increase personal and community contributions. We will be supported to shift ourselves from a frozen and overwhelmed state of being to an active and resilient energy within personal, community and global environments.
Groups will meet Saturday’s 10am-11:30am for 6 weeks in a collaborative group experience offering both in-person and virtual participation.
Book will not be provided. You can purchase the book at:
