ABOUT US:

Creative Veins is a performing arts studio that trains students of all ages and experience levels. Our kids acting sessions are taught by two instructors and offered in 4-week blocks. We meet once a week for two hours with a small break in the middle. There is nothing to bring; we provide everything needed! From the newbie to the hobbyist to the serious, aspiring professional, we see many students, all with very different goals. We're eager to help each student accomplish these goals, whatever they may be! Our classes are taught by professional, agency-represented actors who live in Jacksonville and work regionally (Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Nashville, and Knoxville) on paid bookings in film, theater, commercials, and television. Additionally, many of our instructors are multi-disciplined, meaning that besides being highly trained and skilled in acting, they have also trained in music, singing, dance, improv, and more!

ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS:

All of our classes are taught by professional, agency-represented actors who live in Jacksonville and work regionally (Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Nashville, and Knoxville) on paid bookings in film, theater, commercials, and television. Additionally, many of our instructors are multi-disciplined, meaning that besides being highly trained and skilled in acting, they have also trained in music, singing, dance, improv, screenwriting, and more! This class is taught by actress, casting director and studio owner Rebecca and by bilingual actress and improviser Frances; having a combined experience in the performing arts of over 25 years!

HOW CAN ACTING CLASSES HELP MY CHILD?

Not only do acting classes provide students with the skills needed for the job of an actor, but real-life skills as well. How do I know? Because I'm a professional actor and coach and I've learned more about solving problems, effectively communicating, fostering meaningful relationships, making tough decisions, thinking for myself, running a business, and navigating this world from my acting training than any other endeavor. It's important for me to say that taking one class will not magically make your child have loads of confidence, a million friends, and whatever else you wish for them. It's not something that happens overnight, and it truly depends on the child. Acting classes can absolutely help get that ball rolling if your child needs some help with confidence, being assertive, making friends, making decisions, working independently, actively listening, focusing, paying attention, solving problems, OR they're prone to laziness, shyness, becoming easily bored, and need to be constantly stimulated by a screen. Unshakeable confidence, solid communication skills, exceptional problem-solving, and having high emotional intelligence are just a few of the byproducts that come from studying this discipline.

WHAT's COVERED?

Besides being a ton of fun, our classes provide a strong focus on understanding the actors' tools (our voice, our imagination, our brain, and body movement), script analysis, and on-camera auditioning. In addition, our exercises concentrate on strengthening communication skills, problem-solving, and gaining emotional intelligence. Acting can be a lot of fun, but it is an artistic discipline, similar to music, singing, or dance, requiring deliberate practice and effort. At the end of the session, each student will participate in a taped mock audition performance wherein parents will receive a copy. Students who successfully complete the session will receive a graduation certificate. Perfect attendance is preferred, but if a student must miss a class, they will be able to make it up in any future session (make-up dates never expire).

LESS SCREENTIME:

Some children we see in class have little human interaction and spend more time with their phones and tablets than other humans. As a result, social skills that were traditionally learned from frequent contact and socializing with others (parents, teachers, friends, neighbors, classmates, and mentors) are, in some cases, underdeveloped. We value our students and genuinely want them to be successful wherever life takes them. Because we feel these skills are so vital for acting (and life in general), our sessions also include making sure students know:

* how to introduce themselves properly

* how to listen completely (without interrupting)

* how to articulate their ideas clearly

* how to express feelings in socially acceptable ways

Additionally, many of our exercises focus on problem-solving and taking personal responsibility. In our experience, this is the best way to build confidence by having students earn their confidence by solving problems independently and not giving up or having others do it for them – even when the challenge is a little complicated or unfamiliar.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE CLASS?

It depends on your child’s goals. All students are welcome to attend sessions for as long as they like. We will always practice similar warm-up exercises while building on what has already been presented and growing in the craft by introducing new exercises and concepts. Acting classes should be treated like music or dance lessons; usually the more practice, the more skillful in the long run. If your child decides they’d like to work towards auditioning, paid bookings, and (eventually) agency representation in the Southeast region, we highly recommend them continuing with their training. We typically find that 4-6 sessions are necessary to build enough skill to submit to a reputable talent agent, however, the student's instructors can give more feedback on this (and their readiness) once we’re able to access their abilities.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN'T LIKE ACTING?

If, for any reason, acting does not end up being your child's cup o' tea, we will not encourage them to "stick with it." We don't advise forcing a student to participate in a class if there is no genuine interest. We will encourage them to seek out something that truly does interest and excite them. Not only is it unfair to the student, but it's unfair to the instructors and the rest of the students who want to be here when they're forced to work with someone who does not. Additionally, it brings down morale and does not allow us to work cohesively in our ensemble exercises. We will help make arrangements to withdraw them from the class and reimburse you for any un-attended classes.

COVID-19 INFO:

I know I can speak for everyone at Creative Veins when I say that few things make us happier than working with students inside the classroom. But as we reopen our doors, our continued commitment to the safety of our team members, instructors, and students has only deepened. To ensure everyone’s health and well-being, we will be taking meticulous steps before, during, and after classroom time.

Exactly what are these steps?

• Disinfecting all community areas with EPA-registered disinfectant prior to and immediately after classes

• Limiting class size by 50% so that students are not physically closer than 6 feet in distance to one another

• Required hand-washing by all team members, instructors, and students upon entering the building and classroom

• Strict no touching or physical contact with others or any items such as sign-in sheets or tablets inside of the studio

• Prohibiting all outside visitors inside the studio at this time; this includes friends, extra family members, and class audits

Although our studio is large and we usually welcome visitors, it is necessary to keep this strictly prohibited for the time being. The fewer people, the better for everyone. Our curriculum and training for in-studio classes only require the student to be seated and within the instructor’s view. It’s not forever, but we hope you’ll understand why following these steps is so important right now.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

We'd love to help answer them! This is our passion! We're truly happy to help answer any questions! Our studio is open 7 days a week from 9am - 10pm. Please shoot us a message here on Facebook, send us a text, an email OR give us a call anytime!
