About this Event
Acting for KidsA fun, formal, and thorough approach to acting, technique, & the business side of the industry from Jacksonville's # 1 performing arts studio!

Our Acting for Kids sessions provide fun and formal training in acting for children ages 7-12. Not only is it super informative, but it’s also a ton of fun and no experience is necessary to join! Here, we’ll cover the principles of acting and performing, script analysis, character and scene work, auditioning, on-camera filming and MORE using a series of acting exercises, theater games, improv, ensemble activities, and proven acting techniques! Whether your child is a newbie, hobbyist, or a serious, aspiring professional, we’re eager to help them accomplish their acting goals, whatever they may be! This session meets 2 hours a week x 4 weeks (a total of 4 class meetings).

Acting for Kids Class is perfect for:
  • Kids ages 7-12 with no prior experience who want to start their acting journey
  • Students who've already been training and want to continue building skill
  • Anyone who’d like to build confidence, overcome shyness, pursue a passion, strengthen communication skills, be challenged, gain a creative outlet, learn how to articulate thoughts/feelings/emotions, make friends, grow, and have lots of fun

Our classes are fun and supportive and they're all taught by professional, working, agency-signed actors who are in the industry right now!Session Info:

Session Type: Acting for Kids

Meets: Thursdays,5:45 pm - 7:45 pm x 4 weeks

Starts: 1/6/2022 at 5:45 pm

Duration: 4 classes total

Cost: 169

Includes: 4 classes, mock audition tapes, graduation certificate

Taught by: Instructor Rebecca and Instructor Frances(click hyperlink for IMDB pages/bios)

What We'll Cover:

Besides being a ton of fun, our classes provide a strong focus on understanding the actors’ tools (our voice, our imagination, our brain, and body movement), script analysis, and on-camera auditioning. Our exercises concentrate on strengthening communication skills, problem-solving, and gaining emotional intelligence. Acting can be a lot of fun, but it ?? an artistic discipline, similar to music, singing, or dance, requiring deliberate practice and effort. At the end of the session, each student will participate in a taped mock audition performance wherein parents will receive a copy. Students who complete the session will receive a graduation certificate. More of what’s covered:

  • Working as a team in an ensemble
  • Reading, analyzing, and memorizing a script
  • Developing characters & bringing a story to life
  • Filming an on-camera slate plus a scripted tv, commercial, scene, or monologue
  • Auditioning & proper auditioning etiquette

Building Confidence & Social Skills:

Some children we see in class have little human interaction and spend more time with their phones and tablets than other humans. As a result, social skills that were traditionally learned from frequent contact and socializing with others (parents, teachers, friends, neighbors, classmates, and mentors) are, in some cases, underdeveloped. We value our students and genuinely want them to be successful wherever life takes them. Because we feel these skills are so vital for acting (and life in general), our sessions also include making sure students know:

  • How to introduce themselves properly
  • How to listen completely (without interrupting)
  • How to articulate their ideas clearly
  • How to express feelings in socially acceptable ways

Additionally, many of our exercises focus on problem-solving and taking personal responsibility. In our experience, this is the very best way to build confidence – by having students earn their confidence by solving problems and not giving up – even when the challenge is a little complicated or unfamiliar.

What’s Included?

  • Four 2-hour classes
  • Video copy of your child’s audition slate
  • Video copy of your child’s mock audition
  • Graduation certificate
  • We provide everything needed for class

Who We Are:

Creative Veins is an award-winning, A+ rated performing arts studio that trains students of all ages and experience levels in acting, improv, stand-up, and screenwriting. All our classes are taught by professional, agency-represented performing artists who live in Jacksonville and work regionally (Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Nashville, and Knoxville) on paid bookings in film, theater, commercials, television, and live show productions. Additionally, many of our instructors are multi-disciplined, meaning that besides being highly trained and skilled in their craft, they have also trained in improv, music, singing, dance, stand-up, and more! Our sessions are offered in 4-week blocks and meet once a week for two hours. From the newbie to the hobbyist to the serious, aspiring professional, we see a wide range of students; all with very different goals. We’re eager to help each student accomplish these goals, whatever they may be! Pro-tip: Professional, skilled, experienced, agency-represented actors who are actively working in the industry right now typically make the best teachers and can provide the most accurate, up-to-date information in this discipline!

Class Size + Covid-19 Info:

Please note, our in-person studio classes are always kept smaller in size to provide a more personalized curriculum to ensure each student’s success in the program! Once a class is full it is marked as SOLD OUT and we cannot add any additional students to it. Additionally, and most importantly, the health and well-being of our students and faculty is vital to us. All students and faculty are required to wear masks as they enter the building. We're social distancing of at least 6 feet, requiring handwashing/sanitizing, and have a no-touch policy in place. All classrooms and common areas are sanitized prior to and immediately following all classes. For more info, please email us at the email address below for a comprehensive covid-19 policy our studio has in place.

Attendance:

We strongly encourage perfect attendance. If a class must be missed, we’ll do our best to get the student caught up in time for the next class, so they’re not behind. Missed classes can be made up in any future session. Make-up dates never expire.

Location/Parking:

We are conveniently located in the heart of downtown Jacksonville just two blocks up from The Florida Theater (approx. a 20-minute drive from most parts of our city)! Our studio is 4,000 square feet with a lobby and movie room for rides, parents, and guests to hang out during class! We offer plenty of free parking right in front inside our private lots. Additionally, there’s also free parking at the street meters on weekends and after 6 p.m. on weekdays.
