FERNANDO WAX (Red Maze Records/Be)
Fernando Wax, a Spaniard by adoption from Brussels, has been immersed in music since the '80s, when he hosted a punk show called "Les Z'inomables" on the fledgling "Radio Panik" pirate radio station in Brussels, as well as importing records from the crème de la crème of the alternative scene, which he scoured in several of the Belgian capital's best-known record shops. He is known in the electro world for having run the Wax Club, infusing his club with his own style, often at odds with the rest of the current electronic scene. He has mixed with the likes of Mount Sims, Robert Babicz, Anja Schneider, Alexander Maier, Ripperton, Water Lilly... While defending melodious electro-waves in clubbing, he has returned to his first musical love of the 80s (the two styles are intimately linked in his opinion), creating the famous "Ce N'est Pas De La Couille, Voici La New-Wave" evenings, mixing the classics with today's flourishing Darkwave scene. In the same vein, he launched the WAVES show on vibration fm, which he has been hosting for the past 8 years. He also runs the Brussels-based RED MAZE RECORDS label, with a dozen releases in its catalog.
