Find your spark as an educator by bringing your lessons and students into the great outdoors!
By becoming an accredited outdoor educator you can embed outdoor and environmental learning within your school, social work team, SEBN unit and many other professional contexts. Spearhead new and exciting ways of providing lesson content, improve the health and wellbeing of students and breath new life into your role as an educator by exploring nature alongside the young people in your care.
Woodland Activity Leader Training is an affordable and in-depth crash course into outdoor learning, providing the perfect alternative to Forrest School training. Developed in Scotland for Scottish educators, the course is Professionally Recognised by the General Teaching Council for Scotland and officially Endorsed by Education Scotland. Condensing all the skills and experience you need to take your lessons outdoors safely and with confidence, you will gain a wealth of experience and understanding including:
- Outdoor Group management
- Risk assessments for outdoor environments
- Teaching safe tool use including forestry saws, loppers and knives
- Bush craft skills including fire lighting, shelter, knots and tarps
- Naturalist skills including plants, trees, minibeasts, native mammals and birds
- Learning how to read animal tracks and signs
- Developing inspiring outdoor lessons and adapting curricular content for outdoor contexts including literature, math and science
- Conservation and community connection
- Promoting health and wellbeing through nature connection
- A tool box of games and activities that any educator can work seamlessly into outdoor sessions
- Non-competitive physical education that creates closer connections between students, teachers and the natural world around us.
- Learn how to bring playgrounds, parks and greenspaces to life by revealing the hidden role of nature in both urban and rural spaces.
