About this Event
1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year.
This means it’s highly likely that we all have friends, family members or colleagues who have experienced or are experiencing a mental health problem – whether we know it or not.
The Standard Mental Health First Aid course is a 12 hour course that is delivered over two days face to face. After the course is completed, participants complete a short assessment to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider.
Mental Health First Aid training teaches individuals the skills to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in individuals aged 18 and older and to have a supportive conversation they may otherwise have felt unable to have.
The training does not teach people to be counsellors or how to diagnose a mental illness, but instead it provides the skills and confidence needed to provide immediate assistance to someone in need. The course also covers effective interventions backed by research and strategies for providing mental health first aid in crisis situations.
