Emma Bairstow
Emma has worked in education since graduating from Wimbledon College of Art in 2012. Emma is passionate about teaching and learning and giving children the best creative opportunities and education possible. She works nationally leading training aimed to inspire teachers and senior leaders and build confidence in how to approach a creative curriculum and embed it in school.
Since graduating from Wimbledon College of art Emma began as a teaching assistant, teaching art as PPA cover and therefore learning what needed developing and changing in regard to what art was viewed as in primary school.
Emma worked as Art specialist and consultant for the Inspire Partnership London which inspired her to set up Artworks Education LTD so she could broaden her reach nationally.

Session 1- 12th September, 9.15 until 3pm
It starts with us - Building confidence in our own creativity.
⁃ this session explores barriers in our own art teaching. We focus on breaking down the “I can’t draw” anxiety and gain understand into when this happens with ourselves and our children.
We will practice experimental art techniques that will build our own creative confidence and can easily transfer to the classroom helping our children flourish creativity.
Session 2- 14th November, 9.15 until 3pm
Who inspires you? “Great masters” and diversity within your curriculum
-this session focuses on using sketchbooks effectively to explore and experiment with artist knowledge and style through a practical workshop
- this session will give delegates the opportunity build understanding in how to link an artist to their work and where to start when selecting artists
- the importance of diversifying the artists we choose to study within our curriculum and planning time to do this
Session 3- 9th January, 9.15 until 3pm
The joy in the process! Experimenting with new materials.
- this session shows how we can use sketchbooks to explore new techniques, discover and play with different materials
- The session will be a hands on taster session into some of the more messier mediums giving the chance for delegates to get creative and upskill themselves
Session 4-13th March, 9.15am until 3pm
Finding the Balance- Process and outcome
⁃ This session explores how we pull our knowledge together to create an end piece.
⁃ managing challenges along the way within your art planning and trial and error when teaching art
⁃ We will explore practical techniques to add finishing touches to outcomes to give them that extra something
-encouraging children to keep going and when to walk away.
Session 5. 19th June, 9.15am-3pm
Art Progression from EYFS to year 6- meeting the child where they are.
- This session will be about sharing methods of recording progression through sketchbooks, learning environment and supporting documentation
- valuing the learning journey through evaluation, reflection
- The power of showcasing and celebrating the learning journey
- A practical workshop on displaying art alongside literacy.
