About this event
Our kids are the designers of the future so what better time than now to learn about the importance of designing experiences that can be accessed by as many people as possible whilst excluding the fewest?
Of the top 1M websites on the internet ~ 97.4% of homepages have detectable accessibility errors.
There are 16 million disabled people in the UK, that’s 1 in 4 people, and they need the next generation of designers to be aware of the issues they face and how to solve them.*
Another Acronym will lead an interactive workshop that explores what it is like to navigate the web with an impairment, encouraging the kids to question how they can improve on what is out there.
Task: Katie, Noel and their son Cooper (aged 9) will explore the types of challenges people have when they are interacting with a design that isn’t made with them in mind. These could include, physical challenges, impaired vision or hearing and conditions like dyslexia and autism which can make reading and understanding some things more difficult.
So come down and learn what to look for in a good inclusive, accessible design.
Become a young a11y champion!
(If you don’t know what that is you will by the time you leave).
There are 10 spaces available for this workshop.
All equipment will be provided.
The Venue
Please note: The workshop will take place in the auditorium on the ground floor at the Margate School so parents are welcome to have a refreshment in the cafe area while the workshop is running. Parents with smaller children will need to accompany them at all times. The workshop will be conducted in English.
