About this Event
Abya Yala is an Indigenous term for the Americas, and Chilean-American composer Freddy Vilches has set poems by five Indigenous poets of Central and South America, in Mapundungun, Aymara, Quechua, Nahuatl, Mayan Ki'iche, and Spanish. The program will be rounded out by songs from other parts of the Abya Yala continent, including one by Chilean-Canadian Nano Valverde and one by Canadian Indigenous Sheryl Sewapagaham (Cree-Dene).
The Latin American ensemble comprises Freddy Vilches, Nico Vilches, Nano Valverde, and Ernesto Cardenas on Indigenous Latin American instruments, plus Ellen Meyer on piano, all directed by Isabel Bernaus.
