About this Event

In this two-day workshop we will take a photo of your choosing and explore how to turn it into an abstract composition.


2-day workshop.


June 17th and June 18th, 10am-4pm with 1 hour lunch break


$150/person


Materials

• Oil or Acrylic paints of your choice…just a few of your favorites, plus black and white. (No water-soluble oils)

• 2-3 sheets of Arches 140lb. cold-pressed oil paper, 16x20 or 22x30

• Palette knives for mixing and/or for painting. (Knives with offset handles work best.)

• 1-1/2” wide painter’s tape, or similar. Needs to be removable.

• Freezer paper or a flat palette to mix color on.

• Paper towels

• Notebook and pen/pencil

• Large newsprint pad

• A piece of thin cardboard or chipboard, roughly 9x12 (does not need to be exact)

• Ruler

• X-acto knife and piece of thicker cardboard or other cutting surface

• Recommended: latex or nitrile gloves, work apron, or painting clothes


Options:

For cold wax:

• At least 4 oz of Gamblin Cold Wax Medium (“CWM”)

• “Colour Shaper” at least 1-1/2” wide, and/or silicone bowl scraper with flexible edge, “Messermeister” bowl scraper, or squeegees with a flexible edge.

• Mark-making tools

• Baby oil or mineral oil for tool cleanup (you don’t need very much)


If you are painting traditionally:

• Large brushes

• Gamsol (or other odorless solvent of your choice) for cleanup
