Anita G. is a young East German woman who comes to West Germany in hopes of a better life. With no real home and no job, she gets into trouble with the law when she steals and is sent to prison. After her sentence, she has difficulty adjusting to life in a new society. Her probation officer tries to help her, but Anita fails in every job, continues to lie and steal, and refuses to settle down. She then falls in love with a civil servant and feels a sense of security with him, until she is recognized on the street one day by a woman she once betrayed...

Anita G. est une jeune Allemande de l'Est qui vient en Allemagne de l'Ouest dans l'espoir d'une vie meilleure. Sans domicile fixe ni emploi, elle a des ennuis avec la justice lorsqu'elle vole et est envoyรฉe en prison. Aprรจs sa condamnation, elle a du mal ร s'adapter ร la vie dans une nouvelle sociรฉtรฉ. Son agent de probation tente de l'aider, mais Anita รฉchoue dans tous ses emplois, continue ร mentir et ร voler, et refuse de s'installer. Elle tombe alors amoureuse d'un fonctionnaire et se sent en sรฉcuritรฉ avec lui, jusqu'au jour oรน elle est reconnue dans la rue par une femme qu'elle a autrefois trahie...
