Every other month, during ABQArtwalk, I welcome a guest artist into my studio inside the Mothership Alumni. It is a joy to share space in this vibrant creative community here in ABQ. :) My guest artist for June ABQArtwalk, taking place on Friday June 7th from 5-9pm, is emerging and aspiring artist, Sophia Herrera. I met Sophia in my studio at the Mothership Alumni during an Artwalk, and became instantly enamored with, and supportive of this unique and beautiful artistic soul! I was absolutely thrilled when she expressed interest in showcasing her artwork in studio #9, and NOW IS the time!
Here is a little bit about Sophia in her own words:
"My name is Sophia Herrera and I’m a beginning artist who is attending Atrisco Heritage Academy High School. I have been part of the art community for the last three years where I have taken art classes at The Hardwood Art Center and FUSION. The type of art that I have been interested in for last few years is figure drawing. Learning how to put the unique curves of the human body on paper is something that challenges me and I appreciate. My goals are to continue to study art while receiving constructive criticism from fellow artists.
I am showcasing pieces of my figure drawing to show how have I have grown as an artist, as well as school art pieces I have done this past year."
Sophia's work will be displayed just for the evening of June ABQArtwalk, so don't miss the opportunity to meet this incredible young artist and view her personally selected works!
The Mothership Alumni is located in the heart of downtown ABQ at 105 4th St SW - at the corner of 4th and Central, with our entrance on 4th St. Parking is metered in the area (free after 6pm - but fills up fast!) and also there is an inexpensive paid lot on the corner of 4th and Gold.
