About this Event
Olivier Bou who sometimes goes as Oliv’, is best known around town as a
saxophonist and vocalist. For the past few years he has developped a new
repertoire of original songs that he performs solo using a finger-style guitar
accompaniment. His playing and singing are influenced by early masters of
the style such as Mississippi John Hurt as well as by great “acoustic singer-
songwriters” of the sixties and seventies. Bou also likes to explore alternate
guitar tunings and composes songs using English and French. In his lyrics,
he tries to balance collective experience and personal accounts. Many of his
pieces explore the passing of time. He likes to experiment with forms that
borrow from literary devices and is fond of setting French poetry to music,
having adapted poems by Paul Verlaine, Victor Hugo, Marceline
Desbordes-Valmore, and Jean Tardieu. Bou has been a steady presence on
the local singer-songwriter scene of the New Orleans area. In the past year
he has also performed in France and Switzerland.
