About this Event
Discover the art of experimental sound design in this immersive Ableton workshop at Roots Music Project. On April 20th.
We'll venture beyond conventional production techniques to uncover fresh sonic landscapes. Under the guidance of accomplished producer and educator Sarah Pumpian (ZEMBU), you'll learn to transform raw audio into evocative ambient textures using creative effects processing, resampling, and innovative Simpler techniques. Whether you're looking to break free from creative ruts or expand your production toolkit, this workshop offers practical approaches to generating unique sounds that will inspire your future projects.
We will explore unconventional starting points in Ableton by manipulating raw audio, using effects in unexpected ways, and building textures to create ambient atmospheres. Through techniques like resampling and chopping up audio using Simpler, we’ll break away from traditional workflows and discover new sonic possibilities.
Requirements for Workshop:
- Laptop
- Ableton(A free 30-day trial of Ableton Suite is available for download: Ableton Trial)
- MIDI controller
- Headphones
- We will be sharing a folder of samples to use for the workshop via USB sticks. We will have some adapters, but please bring your own if you have one.
- This is a beginner-intermediate workshop, so prior knowledge of Ableton is recommended. You should be comfortable navigating around Ableton and slicing audio clips. Music theory knowledge is not required; however, you will have the option to play in your own parts on a MIDI controller if you choose to.
