PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The course will serve as an introduction to abdominal ultrasound. This two-day, clinically focused, hands-on course will teach you how to use your ultrasound machine, optimize images, and perform a complete ultrasound examination. With over eight hours of laboratory sessions using live dogs and cats, this course will provide all the information needed to understand normal anatomy and how to perform an examination to obtain diagnostic images.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this course, participants will:
- ✅ Understand the basic functionality of an ultrasound machine and how to adjust the settings to achieve the best possible diagnostic image
- ✅ Learn about normal anatomy and ultrasound appearances, including the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, and gastrointestinal tract
- ✅ Understand the differences in anatomy between dogs and cats
- ✅ Develop a systematic routine for evaluating the entire abdomen
- ✅ Be introduced to common abnormal anatomy and pathology frequently diagnosed using abdominal ultrasound
BIO:
Dr. Michael Geist serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Green Dog Veterinary Center and is a board-certified internal medicine specialist and practitioner. His degrees include Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine (DACVIM)
He has worked in private practice since 2006, working at different multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospitals in New York City, San Diego, and Los Angeles. Dr. Geist has a love of medicine, science, and helping people with the healthcare needs of their pets.
Dr Garcia is the founder and chief of staff at Green Dog Dental and Veterinary Center. His experience and training in oral surgery expands over 5000 procedures in a 12 year span and includes general dentistry, jaw fracture repair techniques, endodontic treatments, root canal therapy, and surgical oncology.
He is currently pursuing two Master’s degrees—one in Veterinary Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Luxembourg, and another in Veterinary Dentistry through the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZVS).
Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at Western University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he mentors 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students in general dentistry and oral surgery.
