After the great success of our choral collaboration last Christmas with Cheltenham Youth Choir and MidLife ChoirSis, we're going even bigger for this October's ABC concert.Raising the roof to start with will be the ever-popular Copland "Fanfare for the Common Man".
After this we will have the local première of Michael Omer's "To The Stars" originally premièred at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre, London in 1987, in memory of the crew who perished during the launch of the Space Shuttle ‘Challenger’ in January 1986. It has also been performed at the Barbican Hall and St John Smiths Square some years ago. The piece will feature the wondorous solo and collective voices of Cheltenham Youth Choir.
Prior to the performance of the work, there will be a short interview with Michael Omer (composer) and Chris O'Riordan (ABC Founder) to explore Michael's motivation for the piece and Chris' desires to continue stretching the boundaries of Accidental Brass with concerts like tonight's.
The first half concludes with a soul-lifting choir and brass performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus ahead of our traditional "free-wine" interval and a short second half that should be truly memorable.
Mahler's 2nd Symphony (The Resurrection) concludes with a 5th movement that will leave you moved and blown-away in equal measure. With full symphonic brass and massed choirs we are delighted to be premiering a new specially commissioned arrangement (Ryan Linham) to bring the absolute best bits to you in 20 mins of pure brass and vocal joy.
