About this Event
Many of us came to AAUW through books and book groups, and the annual Authors Luncheon is a fan favorite. This year we are doing it for our Holiday Luncheon!
Our Author
We bring you Elaine Russell, a resident of Fair Oaks. She is the author of three historical novels and six children's book, which have won numerous awards. We will learn about her most recent book When the Tamarind Tree Blooms (2024). A work of fiction, Kirkus Reviews describes this book as, "A richly sensory narrative set in Laos during the period of French rule…” It is about a young woman métisse, half-Lao/half-French, in 1931 French colonial Laos, trying to determine where she belongs in the deeply divided French and Lao societies, where neither group readily accepts her mixed heritage. She is also the author of the historical novels "In the Company of Like-Minded Women" (2018) and "Across the Mekong River" (2012) -- now also available in a French - and five children’s and young adult books.
