Tax-Aide, a partnership between the AARP Foundation and the IRS, is a free service intended for taxpayers who cannot afford paid tax preparation. Tax-Aide is open to taxpayers of all ages, especially those over 50.Starting Thursday, February 25 and continuing through Thursday, April 8, volunteers will prepare returns in the large meeting room in the library from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 302-703-7198. You must leave your name and the best phone number to reach you between 7:00 PM & 8:00 PM when call backs are made. Allow up to 48 hours for a call back. The caller number may appear as “wireless/ unknown caller.” Do not call or visit the Library to make an appointment.
This year returns will be prepared using the drop-off method approved by AARP and the IRS. Taxpayers will leave their relevant documents with the Tax-Aide volunteers. An inventory checklist will document the forms. Taxpayer will be called if there are any questions/issues that need clarification. When the return has been completed, reviewed and printed, the taxpayer will be called and given a date/time to come back at which time the return will be explained and signed. A copy is provided and documents given back.
In advance of the appointment, taxpayers are required to complete IRS Form 13614-C, Intake/Interview sheet which can be downloaded on the library's website. You also can request the form be emailed to you by sending an email to [email protected].
If filing jointly, both taxpayers do not need to come to the appointment. Taxpayers need to bring the following to their appointment:
- Picture ID
- Social security cards for everyone on the return
- All forms reporting income
- Documents in support of itemized deductions
