IMPORTANT NOTE:
API Underground-KC is hosting this training for Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) participants ONLY. If you do not racially identify as AAPI, we're happy to direct you to local groups that can support your antiracist education and identity development.
––––––
This workshop will focus on creating a common understanding of internalized racist oppression (IRO), and offer AAPI participants an opportunity to explore how we are socialized to support and maintain white supremacy culture.
Participants will reflect on their personal, family, community, and professional lives in order to identify and articulate how:
• AAPIs are taught individually and collectively to engage in anti-Black racism;
• we are used as the racial wedge against non-Asian People of Color in order to maintain the racist status quo;
• our racial identities align with white supremacy culture *unless* intentionally intervened upon.
We will also discuss how to disrupt systemic racism and challenge internalized racist oppression in our lives.
––––––
LOGISTICS:
This *in-person* workshop will begin with socializing over a light meal at 5:30 p.m. The training will formally begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude by 8:00 pm.
We ask that any unvaccinated or partially vaccinated participants please wear masks.
Donations will be accepted in support of KC Pet Project.
